Goddy Jedy Agba, born on Augst 20, 1958, is a Nigerian bureaucrat, politician, farmer, author, and former Group General Manager of the Crude Oil Marketing Division at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC). He served as the Minister of State for Power from August 2019 to 2023.
Background and Education
Born into a royal family in Obudu, Cross River State, Agba is the first son of HRH Uti J.D. Agba, the paramount ruler of Obudu Area Council. He earned his first degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1983, and later obtained a master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos in 1989. In September 2012, he was honored as an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
Career Journey
Agba’s professional career began in the Federal Civil Service in 1984. He held various positions, including Personal Assistant to the Minister of Special Duties under the presidency and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the NNPC in 1995, where he rose to significant roles, including the head of market research in the Crude Oil Marketing Department and the head of gas/gas liquids/condensate sales in the GGLU Crude Oil Marketing Department. In 2014, he left NNPC to enter politics.
Political Career
In July 2019, Agba was nominated for a ministerial position by President Muhammadu Buhari. He was sworn in as the Minister of State for Power in August 2019, a role he held until 2023. His tenure as Minister was marked by efforts to address challenges in Nigeria’s power sector.
