Early Life and Education

Adamu’s academic journey began at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. His pursuit of knowledge took him to Columbia University’s School of Journalism in the United States, where he received a master’s degree in journalism. A polyglot, Adamu is proficient in Hausa, English, Persian, Arabic, and French, reflecting his diverse linguistic and cultural background.

Journalism and Early Career

Adamu’s career began in accounting in Bauchi State but soon transitioned to journalism, a field where he made significant contributions. He started as a public analyst and writer, covering various themes and subjects. His first journalistic role was with the New Nigerian Newspapers as a Special Correspondent and a member of the editorial board. He rose through the ranks to become the Deputy Editor and later the chairman of the group’s Editorial Board. Known for his analytical back-page columns in Media Trust’s titles, Adamu also contributed to various news outlets, including Canada-based Crescent International.

Political Career

Before entering politics, Adamu served as a Special Assistant to General Muhammadu Buhari during his tenure as the chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF). He played a vital role as the secretary and member of Muhammadu Buhari’s APC Presidential Transition Committee in 2015. This role set the stage for his subsequent appointment as Minister of Education.

Minister of Education

Appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on November 11, 2015, Adamu embarked on a journey to reshape Nigeria’s education sector. His reappointment on August 21, 2019, following President Buhari’s re-election, was a testament to his impactful work in his first term.
