LG polls will test your credibility, Delta elders tell Oborevwori

In barely two weeks to the local council elections in Delta State, Delta Obidient Elders’ Council has tasked the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to conduct credible elections, saying that the council poll is a litmus test of the credibility of his administration. Speaking at a press briefing in Asaba, the Chairman of the Elders’ Council, Chris Biose, said that the elders will resist any move to rig the election because “rigged election is worse than a military coup.” The chairman alluded to the fact that rigged elections are synonymous with violent coup plotters. While reminding Oborevweri and the election umpires that writing election results without regard to voting detracts from the legitimacy of the government, Chris Biose stressed that election stealing is more grievous than armed robbery. Biose, therefore, urged the governor to ensure free and fair local council elections, which will come up in barely two weeks. He said: “This is the best gift you can give; your best legacy to the younger generation is a good example in your conduct of the state affairs.” Meanwhile, the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, yesterday, applauded political parties and their candidates for ensuring peaceful and issues-based campaigns.
